This is something of a "retro-throwback-walk-down-memory-lane" post. This project was incredibly fun and rewarding to work on. For over a year, Michael Gartland and I would load up our camera equipment and drive to the Bronx neighborhood around Yankee stadium, where we recorded countless hours of interviews with shop keepers, local residents, game day fans, and little league hopefuls, all in the name of recording a specific moment in history (the demolition of the old stadium and the christening of a new one)... and in doing so we gave a voice to the little guy.
We learned about the history of the area, the relationship between the people that live and work in that area and the Yankees, and the massive effects the new stadium had on the local economy. Our initial idea was to make a short film on Bucky Dent, but this quickly grew into a film project with a much larger scope: YANKEELAND: In the Shadow of the Stadium.
